The L293D is a dual H-bridge motor driver IC that controls the speed and direction of two DC motors or a single bipolar stepper motor, offering features such as bidirectional control, separate logic and motor power supplies, independent motor control via enable pins, and built-in protection like thermal shutdown and output clamp diodes. It handles continuous currents up to 600mA per channel and peak currents of 1.2A, operating over a motor supply voltage range of 4.5V to 36V
