Description
The apparatus is used for the "bell in a vacuum" experiment, which demonstrates the non-transmission of sound in a vacuum. When air is pumped out of the bell jar, the sound from the ringing electric bell gradually fades, proving that sound waves cannot travel in a vacuum.
